Four days, five screens
The Tallahassee Film Festival returns this week with its biggest lineup yet, stretching to four days — Oct. 8 through 11 — and screening 80 films across five screens, according to the Tallahassee Democrat's festival guide.
A top-billed event is a rare Florida performance by Bay Area culture-jammers Negativland + Sue-C on Oct. 10 at the Challenger Learning Center, the festival's presenting sponsor.
Opening night belongs to FSU film program graduate Costa Karalis, whose debut feature "Frogtown" explores childhood imagination in the Panhandle town of Marianna.
New space, free outdoor night
Longtime partner Cap City Video Lounge hosts a program Oct. 10 of independent films in its newly expanded screening space on West Pensacola Street.
Families can take in free entertainment Oct. 10 at Kleman Plaza with a 30th-anniversary screening of "Mars Attacks!" on the lawn. The Disasternauts play at 7 p.m., with the screening following at 8 p.m.; attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.
Tickets and venues
All-access passes cost $60 through tallahasseefilmfestival.com, with individual tickets available at the door for single programs. The main venues are the Challenger Learning Center at 200 S. Duval St. and Cap City Video Lounge at 2122 W. Pensacola St.
